APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Your spreadsheets got you here.
Build what comes next.

Convert your Microsoft Excel files and Access databases into a web application built around the way your business works.

Tech The Right Way helps you move beyond repeated data entry, disconnected files, and manual workarounds. We review what you have, learn how your team uses it, and turn your processes into a connected application with cleaner data and practical automation.

KEEP THE KNOWLEDGE. IMPROVE THE PROCESS.

When the files that run your business need room to grow

Excel and Access can hold years of valuable business knowledge. As more people, records, and steps become involved, keeping everything coordinated can become a job of its own. A custom web application brings that work into a shared system your team can use through a browser.

Too many versions

Copies of the same spreadsheet make it difficult to know which information is current. A shared database gives your application a consistent place to store and retrieve records.

The same information, entered again

Rekeying customer details, copying rows, and assembling reports take time. We identify where information can be captured once and reused throughout your workflow.

Data that doesn't agree

Different spellings, duplicate records, and inconsistent formats make searching and reporting harder. We address the underlying structure as well as the way people enter information.

A CONVERSION THAT STARTS WITH UNDERSTANDING

We learn your workflow before we build your application

  1. Review your Excel and Access files

We examine the files that support your day-to-day work: worksheets, tables, relationships, formulas, queries, forms, reports, and any macros or VBA involved. We identify where information comes from, how it moves, and which dependencies the new application needs to address.

  2. Walk through how your team actually uses them

You show us a typical job from beginning to end, including handoffs, approvals, exceptions, and the steps that happen outside the files. We discuss who enters information, who needs to see it, and which outputs your business relies on.

  3. Decide what should change

What takes too long? What gets entered twice? Which reports are missing? We work with you to separate essential requirements from future improvements and agree on the workflows, data, and features included in the conversion.

  4. Build, migrate, and validate together

We rebuild the agreed functionality for the web, prepare the existing data, and test the new workflows against real business examples. Reviewing migrated records, calculations, and reports with your team helps confirm that the application supports the work it was designed to do.

LESS REPETITION. MORE USEFUL WORK.

Automate the steps that slow you down

Our goal is to minimize manual data entry wherever it is practical. Instead of simply recreating every spreadsheet screen, we look at the whole process and find opportunities to remove unnecessary steps.

  • Reuse information: select an existing customer, supplier, or project and bring the related details into the task.
  • Calculate consistently: apply agreed business rules to totals, dates, and other derived values.
  • Move work forward: identify opportunities for status updates, reminders, and approval routing.
  • Reduce copy-and-paste: explore imports and connections to other systems where supported access and suitable interfaces are available.
  • Make reporting easier: use the same underlying records to produce the views and reports your team needs.

Automation is scoped around your requirements and the systems involved. Decisions that need a person's judgment can remain part of the workflow, with clear points for review.

BETTER DATA, FROM THE START

Clean up what you have. Standardize what comes next.

Normalize and organize existing data

Moving inconsistent data into a new application does not automatically fix it. We review duplicates, missing values, conflicting labels, and relationships between records, then work with you to establish the rules for cleaning and migrating them.

Normalization also means structuring the database so information is stored in the right place. For example, a customer's contact details can belong to one customer record, with related jobs linked to it, instead of repeating those details on every job. This reduces conflicting copies and makes updates easier to manage.

Ambiguous records need your business knowledge. We flag uncertainty for review rather than guessing which value is correct.

Build consistency into everyday entry

The new application guides people toward valid, consistent information before a record is saved. Depending on the field and workflow, that can include:

  • Drop-down lists for approved categories and statuses.
  • Checkboxes for clear yes-or-no selections.
  • Date pickers and numeric fields with appropriate limits.
  • Required fields and helpful validation messages.
  • Lookups that select an existing record instead of retyping it.
  • Duplicate checks and rules that protect relationships between records.

These controls reduce typo-driven inconsistencies. They cannot guarantee that every selection is factually correct, so useful checks and review steps still matter.

BUILT AROUND YOUR PRIORITIES

A web application that fits the work

Customer and job tracking, inventory records, service requests, scheduling, and operational reporting are examples of processes that may benefit from a custom application. Your existing files give us a starting point; your business needs guide the result.

We discuss which screens and reports you need, who should be able to view or change records, and how the application should fit into daily operations. Hosting, backups, access controls, integrations, and ongoing support should be agreed as part of the project scope.

You do not need to arrive with a technical specification. A walkthrough of your current process and a list of frustrations are a useful place to start.

Questions about converting Excel and Access

FAQs last updated:

Is this an automatic file conversion?

No. Data can often be imported, but formulas, VBA, forms, queries, and reports need to be reviewed and their required behavior rebuilt or adapted for the web. The service combines process review, application development, and data migration.

Can we keep the features that already work well?

Yes. We discuss what to preserve, what to improve, and what is no longer needed. Existing calculations and reports help define the expected behavior, which we validate with your team during development.

Do our files need to be perfectly organized first?

No. Reviewing and normalizing existing data is part of the work. We will need your help to resolve unclear records and confirm business rules, especially when different files disagree.

How much will it cost, and how long will it take?

The scope depends on the number and complexity of your files, the condition of the data, the workflows involved, and the automation or integrations required. We review those needs with you before defining the project scope, estimate, and timeline.

What should we bring to the first conversation?

Bring an overview of the Excel or Access tools you use, the people and processes involved, and the changes you would most like to see. We can then arrange an appropriate way to review representative files; there is no need to send sensitive business records through the initial contact form.
